Day 05 - Persepolis & Eshfahan

Day 05 Thursday August 18

We got up at 8 am after sleeping 4 hours for the second night in a row, had breakfast and left at 10.30 am for our next stop, Eshfahan

On the way is the Unesco world heritage site, Persepolis. Reaching at about 11.30 am, we had a guided tour. The ruins of the complex are raised high on a walled platform, with five "palaces" or halls of varying size, and grand entrances. It was a ceremonial place used mostly to celebrate Nowroz (Persian New Year) held on the spring Equinox (March 21). We have much older and grander places in India but it's not presented and marketed well.

Lunch is at Hotel Pasargod. After 4-5 days we enjoyed some spicy food.

We reached Eshfahan at 10 pm and settled in Hotel Abbassi. It's 400 years old and the world's oldest hotel. Our room no. 101 is a suite of about 1000 sq. feet. It has a sitting room with 4 armchairs, a sofa, writing desk and a centre table. There is an 8 seater dining table too. A bedroom and 2 bathrooms with full size cupboards, side boards, oil paintings on the walls, chandeliers on the ceiling and carpets on the floor complete the picture.

I backed up the camera, dashcam and mobile on the laptop and wrote the blog posts of the last 3 days. Now it is 2 am.

A good night's rest is overdue.

For the record:
Shiraz hotel 3 am - 10.25am
