Day 22 - 1 Day, 5 Countries

Day 22 Sunday September 4

It was a very interesting day as we drove via country no. 7, Slovakia to country no. 8, Austria, where we had a tea break, back to Slovakia for a bio break, then to country no. 9, Czech Republic for lunch before reaching country no. 10, Poland for dinner.

Starting from Hungary, we entered Slovakia and found that a small detour could take us into Austria. Kyu nahi, kuch nahi to chai peekar aate hai. So we drove for 23 kms in Austria and glided back into Slovakia. For using the roads one must buy a "vignette" (cost EUR 12), which you could say is a 'toll tax'. We crossed the Vistula river and took the ring road outside the capital city, Bratislava. The longest mountain range in Europe (1500 kms.) called the Carpathian range begins in Slovakia and ends in Romania. We drove for 70 kms in Slovakia.

From Slovakia we crossed the Moravia river to the eastern border of the Czech Republic. We had lunch at the Lucky Bastard Brewery in Brno which is the second largest city in the Czech Republic after Prague. There was no traffic as it was a Sunday and the streets were quite empty. Slovakia and Czech are part of the Slavic diaspora.

Once in Poland, we fueled up and drove to the Hotel Holiday Inn in Krakow.
