Day 23 - Krakow
Day 23 Monday September 5
Kraków is the second-largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. Situated on the Vistula River it was the official capital of Poland until 400 years ago. Krakow has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Polish academic, economic, cultural and artistic life. Cited as one of Europe's most beautiful cities, its Old Town with Wawel Royal Castle was declared the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in the world.
We saw the castle and the Church of St. Stanislaus where the royal coronations were held. The Sigismund chapel has crypts of some of the kings of Poland. Inside we climbed the tower which has one of the most magnificent bells in Poland, the Zygmunt Bell.
While walking the Royal Coronation route, we also saw the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul and ended up in Market square which today is filled with stores, cafes, restaurants.
Here are a few pictures of this old historic medieval town.
