Lithuania is in the geographic centre of Europe. Lithuanian is one of the oldest languages in the world.
Vilnius is the capital and largest city of Lithuania. The city is known for the architecture in its Old Town and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Before WW II, Vilnius was one of the largest Jewish centres in Europe. Its nickname was "the Jerusalem of Lithuania".
It is situated on the Neris river. The river starts from Belarus, passes through Vilnius and merges into another river called Nemunas that flows from Poland. They merge at the city of Kaunas and then go into the Baltic Sea.
On our walking city tour, we visited the old town, the Cathedral, Vilnius University, Royal Castle and City Hall.
