Day 45 - Bergen
Day 45 Tuesday September 27
Bergen is the second largest city on Norway’s southwestern coast. It's surrounded by mountains and fjords, including Sognefjord, the country’s longest and deepest. Bryggen features colorful wooden houses on the old wharf, once a center of the Hanseatic League's trading empire. The Fløibanen Funicular goes up Fløyen Mountain for panoramic views and hiking trails.
For the first time since the past few weeks, we did not set a morning alarm. We got up at 9 am, had a leisurely shower and had no breakfast. We also skipped the "Norway in a Nutshell" tour organized for the group.
Leaving the hotel at 11 am we rekindled memories by roaming around the streets and visiting places that we had seen and the place that we had stayed in the last time we were here. By 2.30 pm we were hungry and guess what we found. A restaurant called Namastey Bergen that served us samosa chat, gol gappa shots and dahi puri. We had our fill and came back to the hotel by 4 pm and took some well deserved rest. I had a hot cocoa and Priti had masala tea for dinner.
Later we found that only 8 people went for the NiN tour. Our group is a mix of incredible people. We have been together, almost 24x7, for the past 8 weeks. The AO team has been instrumental in creating the atmosphere in which we are comfortable with each other. There is so much love and respect for one other that all of us feel connected like one big family travelling together on the trip of a lifetime.
